Carrying the legacy of Legend

In this world where everyone is selfish and self-centred, little acts of kindness are rare. People who receive these acts cherish them and those who perform these acts get the heartfelt joy seeing people happy. Although, today life is fast pace and it keeps a person busy day in day out, finding time to serve humanity and sparing moments to help others is necessary as this fills the void that is created in us.

As Emanuel Kant said contrary to Hobbs “Man is essentially god-fearing and gentle, he feels empathy and despises violence”. This means that the urge to help others is natural to humans. This has very well practised and exemplified by Abdul Satar Edhi, a known philanthropist, who spent all his life helping others, saving thousands of orphans and feeding millions of those who needed the most. It is however very unfortunate that after Edhi death his philanthropist organisation fell short of funds and it had to foreclose many helping centres and cut short its operations.

Indeed it was a difficult time and it impacted many. As a member of society and as an admirer of his benevolent work, I along some of my class fellows decided to help, even if it was little. We were working as a team but it also involved some individual work. As in any other work whenever you are up to do some good work there are an obstacle and stable blocks that you face but the real challenge is to overcome those bottlenecks and get ahead of it.

On many occasions, we faced cold shrugs and even negative comments, some even discouraged our work comparing it with begging and fraud. But wherever there is yin there is yang and that is what kept us going.

Our biggest challenge was to make people believe that this is going to be a helping hand for many people who deserve this money however meagre it is. Explaining people the intention behind the act and then persuade them to donate money that was a real challenge. With collective and individual contribution we were able to collect a total of 12000. Though not a huge sum but it was enough to feed some people and cloth a few.

The Takeaway message from this activity was even if the act of kindness is so little to make any dent it must be enough to elevate the suffering of some. As it is said think no evil so little that you commit it and think no act of kindness so little that you overlook it.
